- Houston, TX -New Hampshire Fisher Cat shortstop Aaron Hill was named the
Most Valuable Player of the Major League Baseball Futures Game Sunday afternoon
at Minute Maid Park in Houston, TX.
Hill made the most of his only at-bat of the game, delivering a two-run double in the fifth inning that gave the USA Futures a 4-0 lead over the World Futures. USA went on to a 4-3 victory.
A late addition to the Futures Game, Hill was taking the roster spot of injured shortstop Russ Adams, another top Toronto Blue Jays prospect.
Hill joins current Major Leaguers as Alfonso Soriano (Rangers), Sean Burroughs (Padres) and Jose Reyes (Mets) to win the Futures MVP award. The game kicked off Major League Baseball's All-Star Break festivities.
Hill, the Blue Jays number-one draft pick in 2003, is batting .264 with 6 home runs and 45 RBIs for the Fisher Cats. Those numbers also earned him a slot on the Eastern League's Northern Division All-Star Game in Bowie, MD.
