"And The Award Goes To..."
Brenda Yoder wins the Rawlings Award
11.26.02 - The Greenville Braves Director of Promotions and Community Relations, Brenda Yoder, has been named the 'Rawlings Woman Executive of the Year'. Yoder has been recognized by Minor League Baseball as being the outstanding female executive in the nation for her front office work with the G-Braves.
"Brenda is a true team player in every respect," said Greenville Braves General Manager Steve DeSalvo. ' Her professionalism, maturity and attention to detail have made her a tremendous asset for our organization. I couldn't be happier for her."
Yoder, now in her sixth year with Greenville, has responsibilities that include overseeing the teams' popular youth programs such as the Reading Program, Honor Roll Program, and the G-Braves Kids Club. She also manages all in-game promotions done to entertain fans at Municipal Stadium. Brenda's rise through the organization has been storybook. She began her association with the Braves in 1996 when she worked as a concessions cashier.
" This is a great career with many opportunities," said Yoder. " The Greenville Braves have given me the opportunity to work in a job I truly love and enjoy. I have to give everyone in front office a share of this award. It is a team effort everyday; everyone pitches in and helps. My sincere thanks go out to Steve DeSalvo, Jim Bishop and everyone in our office for their help."
During this past season, Yoder planned the popular 'Around the Farm and in The Barn Tour', where Greenville Braves sponsors and season ticket holders attended games in Richmond, Myrtle Beach, Macon, and Atlanta.
Under Brenda's leadership each Braves Buddies member was able to adopt a player, the Reading Program entered an expanded partnership with the Greenville County Library System, and the Braves annual Christmas Toy Drive added a sleigh to increase donations at area parades and fund raisers.
In the off-season, Brenda heads up several community projects for the G-Braves as well as being an advertising sales representative.
Brenda is a native of Augusta, GA and studied business and marketing at Catawba Valley College. After that she spent the next few years working for Jefferson Pilot Broadcasting and the Alexander County Chamber of Commerce in North Carolina.
Upon moving to the Greenville area, Brenda became involved in her daughters' schools as PTA President and numerous other board positions.
Yoder and her husband, Harold, reside in Taylors, SC and have two daughters, Heather and Misty. Misty hopes to follow in her mom's footsteps. She begins her new job next week as Director of Ticket Operations for the Tennessee Smokies of the Southern League.
" I look forward to many more years with the Greenville Braves and professional baseball," said Yoder. " I also hope more women will become involved in sports management and professional sports as my daughter has."
