Carrying A Big Stick
Outfielder Jason Lane finds the fence.
Round Rock, TX - 06.15.01 - Some dingers did the trick for the Express as they shaded the Travelers on Thursday night. Round Rock outfielder Jason Lane hit a pair of homers and first base. Charley Carter got in on the act adding a solo shot as the Express held on to defeat Arkansas, 4-3.
Lane, who hit a solo homer in Wednesday's loss to the Travelers, followed SS Dave Matranga's one-out single in the first inning with a two-run homer of his own off of righty Jason Stevens. Carter followed, with his 12th of the season, two batters later to give Round Rock a 3-0 lead after one.
Jason was a sixth-round pick of the Houston Astros in 1999. This was his team-leading 24th homer with two outs in the eighth. He also busted out at least three hits in a game, a feat that he has done five times just this month. He also leads the minor leagues with 72 RBI. Through Thursday, he was hitting a Texas League-high of .351.
The 24-year-old Santa Rosa, CA. native also leads the Class AA Texas League with 93 hits, a .431 on-base percentage, a .698 slugging percentage and is second only to Midland's Jacques Landry in homers and runs scored.
