Game 4
@Toledo

Toledo 6, Rochester 0

The Red Wings went from lumber to slumber, finishing a dismal 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position.

Toledo, meanwhile, reverted to its all-or-nothing form, belting four homers to the delight of the home crowd.

Espinosa, Hannahan and Dustin Mohr homered starter Pete Munro. Then, in a repeat from Game 1, Hessman took Korecky deep to complete the 6-0 blowout.

In a rare playoff occurrence, Toledo starter Brian Boehringer was ejected by home-plate umpire Troy Fullwood along with pitching coach Jeff Jones after Fullwood called a close full-count pitch a ball, sending Terry Tiffee to first and loading the bases with one out.

Preston Larrison came in and put the fire out, retiring Kevin West on a popup and Glenn Williams on a groundout.

  How did Boehringer feel? We’ll never know.

"I don’t talk to the media, dude," the former Yankees retread said. “Never have.’’

Game 5
@Toledo

Toledo 10, Rochester 1

Remember Game 7 of the 1985 World Series, when the Royals blew out the Cardinals 11-0? This one was nearly as bad.

The feast-or-famine Mud Hens belted three, count ‘em three, home runs off Mike Smith in the second inning to make it 6-0, then added another long ball in the fourth en route to a 10-1 shellacking.

 Hessman, Espinosa and Mohr all went deep in front of 10,300 at sold-out Fifth Third Field before Cliburn finally gave Smith the hook. Phelps’ two-run shot off Gassner made the score 9-1.

 Rochester went 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position,making it 1-for-21 over the final two games ,and managed just one run on 10 hits.

Toledo hit 152 homers to lead the IL in the regular season and blasted 22 more in the postseason. The other three playoff teams combined for 10.

“We just ran into the ’27 Yankees,’’ Cliburn said. “It all happened so quick.’’

The hammering Hens became the first team to repeat as Governors’ Cup champions since the Durham Bulls in 2002-03.

“We’ve looked bad at times,’’ Mud Hens manager Larry Parrish said, “but we play our best when our backs are to the wall.’’
