[Mexico City Red Devils wins series 4-3]

It will be a haunting feeling for the Mexico City Tigres this off-season. The club had a 3-1 game lead on the Diabolos from Mexico City in the 2002 Championship series.

The Tigres smelled blood. Each of the next three games the team was in position to take home the brass.

Unfortunately the ball did not bounce their way. The Tigres shot themselves in the foot.

Errors and execution plagued the team at the most crucial times. Routine plays were botched. Relievers could not close the door. “Our pitchers came in and were wild,” Tigre GM “Chito Rodriguez said.

In game seven the Tigres had a two-zip lead in the fifth inning. A two out error opened the door for the Diablos. The team went on to score five runs in that inning and win the game 9-5.

This gave the Diablos a 4-3 series win and the Mexican League 2002 Championship.

Not all was lost this season for the Tigres from Mexico City. The team played their first year in Puebla Mexico. It was a huge success from a team and fan perspective.

“Next year the club will be more familier with the stadium and we will try harder to win the championship,” Rodriguez tells MLN.

Right-hander Jesus Olage was a key to the Tigres winning ways. If there was a key player to the Mexico City Tigres second half run Olage was it.

Look for the “hurler” to be back next year. If he is not in a Tigre uniform he just might be in the big dance.
