Portland
Beavers' Jason Bay named PCL's Player of Month for April.
Jason Bay has been selected by Pacific Coast League managers as the circuit's
Player of the Month for April thanks in part to the outfielder's thunderous
.376 batting average.
Bay's
offensive deluge also helped the Portland Beavers to an 18-9 record during
that span, good enough for first in the Northern Division.
In addition to the gaudy batting average, the Trail, British Columbia native
collected a League-leading 31 runs batted in and had nine multi-RBI games
throughout the month.
Bay set the tone for April immediately, going 3-for-5 with a home run and
three RBI on opening day at Sacramento, and remained consistent throughout
the month, only once going more than one game without at least one hit.
On
April 21, the former Gonzaga Bulldog went 4-for-6 with a homer and three
runs batted to begin a six-game stretch during which he hit three homers,
drove in nine runs, and hit for a .550 average, earning PCL Player of the
Week honors.
Upon winning the weekly accolade on April 28, the San Diego Padres prospect
then celebrated by going 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI in a win
against Omaha.
For the month, Bay tallied 20 runs, hit nine homers, and had 32 hits, leading
his team in all three categories.
