Kimm Gets The Call, Baylor Gets The Boot
Pat Listach Named I-Cubs New Skipper

Jonathan Roybal

-07.05.02 - The Chicago Cubs have fired manager Don Baylor and promoted Bruce Kimm from Triple-A affiliate Iowa as the team’s interim manager.

Kimm has been Iowa's skipper over the past two seasons, posting a 127-105 record during that time.

He led the 2001 Iowa Cubs to the Pacific Coast League Central Division championship with an 83-60 record in his first year at Iowa.

The 2002 Iowa Cubs were 44-45 at the time of Kimm's promotion.

Taking over for Kimm will be Iowa’s hitting coach Pat Listach, who will assume managerial duties for the remainder of the 2002 season.

Listach spent six injury-plagued seasons in the major leagues playing with Milwaukee during the 1992-1996 seasons, and with Houston in 1997.

He was named the 1992 American League Rookie of the Year for Milwaukee as he hit .290 and stole 54 bases in 149 games.

After spending the 1998 season in triple-A with Buffalo (Indians) and
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (Phillies), Listach retired as an active player.

In his second year as a minor league coach, Listach joined the Iowa staff in 2001 as hitting coach after one season with the Cubs’ class-A Lansing affiliate.
