Overbay Chases 2nd Minor League Batting Crown
Texas League 2001 Champ Battles Short for PCL Title.Tucson, AZ. - 8.19.02 - Is there a second consecutive batting title on the line for Tucson’s Lyle Overbay? The Sidewinders slugger is engaged in a heated batting race with Rick Short of Salt Lake and Travis Hafner of Oklahoma.
Overbay won the Texas League batting crown last season with a .352 average. He has consistently been a .300 hitter since coming out of Nevada in 1999.That year Overbay hit .343 with 101 home runs in Missoula.
The next year, he hit .332 in Class A South Bend before earning a mid-season promotion to Double A El Paso where he hit .352 the rest of the way.
In 2001 he won the Texas League batting title with a .352 average.
