Pope Fans 13 To Be Named NY-Penn Pitcher of the Week
First-rounder who broke Clemens' NCAA record is honored for the week of 6-24.

06/26/01 - Pitcher Justin Pope, the St. Louis Cardinals' first-round pick in the 2001 First Year Players Draft, was named the New York-Penn League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending June 24th.

In two starts, Pope allowed only 3 hits and did not allow an earned run in ten innings of work.

Pope also topped the league fanning 13 batters, while surrendering only 1 walk. The opposition is batting a mere .088 against the University of Central Florida right-hander.

As a junior in college, Pope compiled a 15-1 mark with a stellar 1.68 ERA during the 2001season. The righty averaged 11.5 K's per game and also had a 38 1/3-inning scoreless streak, breaking the previous NCAA Division I record held by Roger Clemens.
