If you want to see the future of baseball, come to Arizona in October and November. The Arizona Fall League (AFL) is part clinic, part microscope as scouts, coaches, organizations, and the media tweak and evaluate some of the best players in MiLB, and those that want to move on to that fast track.
The AFL’s seemingly relaxed atmosphere and small crowds belie the high stakes of these scratch games. An AFL season can give a player a boost into Major League superstardom, or plummet their career and prospect status permanently.
Six teams, dotted throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area, are populated by players assigned from each farm system.
