8. Ned Skeldon

We bid a fond farewell to Ned Skeldon Stadium, home of the Toledo Mud Hens. A big, airy stadium, it was not high on frills. One of the last of the classic fields to see service, it showed its age, with balding grass and balding ticket takers.

There are smells at Ned Skeldon that can only come from generations of hot dogs, beer, and bodies passing through.

Toledo is a fan-charged place to watch baseball. Not a great destination town, but a blue-collar berg with hearty fans who love the game.

Next year will see something new and shiny, replacing old Ned, with a name to confound even Durham Bulls fans. The naming rights to the stadium went to Fifth Third Bank. That's right. Fifth Third Field. Just rolls off the tongue, doesn't it?
