Our Best Guess: Major Leaguer

2. Ricardo Rodriguez
RHP, 22-years old

Organization: LA Dodgers

Ricardo Rodrigiuez is a player who will soon be a household name to baseball fans. Rodriguez is currently on the 40-man roster of his parent club, the L.A. Dodgers.

Rodriguez had a decent 3.21 ERA with a 14-6 record for Single-A-Vero Beach in 2001. He went all nine innings in two of those games. Last season the native of the Dominican Republic gave up just 55-earned runs in 154.1 innings pitched.

The 22-year-old led the Florida State League while in Vero Beach in strikeouts, with 154, and was named the league’s Most Valuable Pitcher. Chan Ho Park who went 14-11 in 2001 for the L.A. Dodgers was the only other pitcher in the organization with at least 14 wins.

In the last two seasons the right-hander has a total of 41 starts with an overall record of 24-9, and a 2.70 ERA. He accumulated a total of 283 strikeouts in those appearances, and walked 83 in 250.0 total innings pitched.

Other accolades for this “Fab-50” MLN player include the Pitcher of the Week award in the Florida State League last August. He also took that honor five times in 2000 while he was in the Rookie Pioneer League pitching for the Great Fall Dodgers

"He has a 93mph fastball, and a good slider," says Vero Beach skipper Juan Bustabad. "When he is on the hill his teammates have total confidence in him to bring them a win".
