Joe played the 2001 season in the Southern League for the Jacksonville Suns. He had a nice .267 batting average in 544 plate appearances with 134 games played. The California native also had 7-HR's, producing 46-RBI's, and stole 20 bases. In 2000 ESPN.com voted Thurston, L.A. Dodger player of the year.
