Lyle
Overbay has done nothing but hit since turning pro in 1999. Hes
been called up twice by the Arizona Diamondbacks.
His debut was at Missoula where he set a short season record with 101
RBIs and hitting .306, winning MVP honors.
Overbay has been polishing up his defensive game since moving from outfield
to first base.
He moved to South Bend for the 2000 season, hitting .332 and was promoted
in the middle of the campaign to the El Paso Diablos, batting .352 there.
Between the two teams combined, he hit for 14 homeruns and 96 RBIs.
This past season, Overbay won the Texas League battling title and finished
third in the league in RBI. He also led the league in hits, doubles
and on base average.
Lyle has a good eye, makes the needed adjustments and hits the
ball where its pitched, said Assistant Broadcaster for the
El Paso Diablos, Brett Pollock.
Having driven in 100 runs in 2001 for the third time in three years,
Overbay has proven he can hit.
Ending the season with a .352 average after 532 at bats, Overbay will
be quite an addition for any ball club.
