Nick Johnson 1B/DH, 23-years old
Organization: NY Yankees
Nick
Johnson is one of the best hitting prospects in baseball because he
combines the ability to hit for both power and average while drawing
a significant number of walks.
"He's
very selective and has some of the best plate discipline in the minor
leagues," said Reece White, media relations for the Columbus Clippers.
That
discipline helped allow the big left-handed hitter slam 18 homers, while
leading the AAA International League in on-base percentage with .407.
Johnson
has strong defensive skills, but with the signing of Jason Giambi, he
probably won't see much time at first base with the Yankees. With a
strong showing at spring training though, Nate figures in as a possible
starting DH, playing in the house that Ruth built.
