The Prince of Pop [Definitely not to be confused with the King of Pop] is a big-time power hitter who put together a monster year in 2003.

Prince Fielder was named the MLN 2003 Midwest Player of the Year [Link].

In 2004, we still show the Prince of Pop the love because he can mash the pill out past the cheap seats with elegance.

Milwaukee promoted Fielder to Double-A, making his debut with the Huntsville Stars this spring.

In 61 games, Fielder is hitting a streaky .277, indicating that he may be on more of the local than the express to the bigs. Still, unlike some mashers who can obliterate baseballs only to a certain level, we expect this is just a rest stop for the Prince of Pop and not his final destination.

His trademark long ball still remains his strength; in fact his first two Southern League hits came on home runs [see MLN story…].

Considering that he just turned 20-years old, Prince will have plenty of time to develop some consistency, the bugaboo of aspiring power-hitters

We don't expect to see him in an I-Tribe uniform any time soon in Indy, unless his consistency improves. If he can stabilize his day-in-day-out performance, we'd look to see him promoted to the AAA in 2005.

We'd love to get you Milwaukee fans all excited, but, in our estimation, given the Brew Crew's farm system, he's got as even a shot at being trade bait as he does taking the field in the big M.

Still, we'd expect to see him in a major league uniform by 2006, and, perhaps, even in an All Star homerun derby by 2008.

He is a cream of the crop player at no. 16 in the MLN FAB50 survey.

Named to MLN FAB50 2005
