REVISED

Mark Teahen, the 39th overall pick from the ‘02 "Moneyball" draft, battered the Texas League’s Double-A pitching in 2004; much to the delight of the Oakland A’s front office.

Teahen is the best prospect in an Athletics farm system that has very few superstar candidates amongst a crop of utility players.

Teahen was once hailed as the next Jason Giambi.

Although he still has not developed that kind of power, Teahen did hit .335, with 6 dingers and 36 RBI in 53 games for the Midland Rockhounds in the AA Texas League.

Since his promotion to the Pacific Coast League on June 3, Mark has been holding his own in Triple-A, hitting .280 for the Sacramento Rivercats. He's still adjusting to the level of play there. We expect him to reach dominant levels by next season.

A September call-up to Oakland for a little added seasoning may be in the cards if he continues to perform well. It will be more likely as he approaches the other side of three hundred.

We expect him to be a dominant player within the next two seasons. He has a good shot at the bigs, although the crystal ball is a little cracked when it comes to whether that will be with the A's. The principles of Billy ball promote the young, but they also work in mysterious ways.

MLN ranks him as the no. 1 prospect in the A's organization, and no. 17 in affiliated minor baseball overall on our FAB50 survey.

Our apologies to Mark for the misspelling of his name in the original release of this article. We are on "live" load for this special series, and a normal check was missed. -ed.
