There is nothing funny about the way that this Richard Lewis put up great numbers after coming to the Chicago Cubs organization from the Braves.

The deal was part of a four-player trade during spring training with Atlanta.

In 59 games this season, Lewis is hitting .339, which is the second best average in the Southern League [SL].

His 21 doubles and 7 triples lead the SL, while his 46 runs and .549 slugging percentage rank third.

.

Lewis has been on a roll since capturing the 2003 Arizona Fall League [AFL] batting title with a .404 average while ranking second in the league with 9 stolen bases and a .448 on base percentage. He also homered to lead his team to victory in the AFL Championship Game.

Right now, Mark Grudzielanek is the king of second base. In the Cubs current championship bloodlust, the purse strings to the pocketbook have been open to big name acquisitions. The combination of these facts leads us to believe that the Chicago organization is just another stop on the highway to the big leagues.

If he continues to progress, though, we see him not only as outstanding trade bait, but a significant asset to any organization in need of a second bagger.

He debuts on MLN's FAB50 at no. 23. Maybe he feels guilty about that, or wonders if he should have come in higher. (It's tough sharing a monicker with a stand up comic.).
