One of the many talents on the Anaheim Angels’ thriving farm, Ervin Santana is proving to be the organization's top pitching prospect and quickly moving his way up.

Last year, he tore apart the heavy hitting California league, going 10-2 and posting a 2.53 ERA. This performance earned him California League’s Pitcher of the Year honors.

Santana easily throws in the mid-nineties, and the move up to Texas League hasn’t effected his dominating performance.

He is 2-0 for the Arkansas Travelers, posting an ERA of 2.45 in five games since the call came.

Santana finds himself in a good spot in an Angels organization with a major league skipper who appreciates the value of great young talent. That's also a great spot to be for a player being evaluated by other organizations for potential trades.

Santana was discovered in the Domincian Republic. If he's headed home, where they eat and sleep baseball, or to the VSL in the off-season, we can only see his progress accelerate faster.

Santana is still on the track to a big league career over the long haul if he can keep the heat on and dominate players as he moves through the developmental system. Unless the Angels change skippers or GMs any time soon, we would expect him to stay in the organization short of some killer deal for a veteran where he would make an enticing "player to be named later."

We still think he has time and some additional seasoning, with a likely stop in the AAA in his future. Angels fans should keep an eye on Mr. Santana, with the notion that he may be coming to a bullpen near you in late 2005 or for the 2006 season.
