Talk about a newcomer bursting on the scene! When this baseball palace opened its doors on April 3, 2003 as the home of the Texas League RoughRiders, most baseball fans hadn't heard of Frisco, Texas. This facility has certainly changed that.
This stadium was named “Best New Ballpark of 2003” by BASEBALLPARKS.COM. When you consider its competition, including the new big-league yard in Cincinnati, this was quite an accomplishment.
In reality, the choice was a no-brainer, as the combination of its aesthetics and the game-day experience of the fans lapped the field.
The design of the park is truly unique. The concession stands, rest rooms and luxury suites were placed in separate buildings behind the concourse at the rear of the main seating bowl. The bullpens were positioned within the stands, surrounded on all four sides by seats. The landscaping is perhaps the best in all of the Minors.
It's the fun had by the fans, though, that makes this beautiful facility stand out.
"We guarantee the best 'fan experience' in baseball. So get ready because in 2004, we're unstoppable," announced RoughRiders President and General Manager Mike McCall.
Even the cleanliness of the park itself is of utmost concern to the team. The same firm as performed clean-up duties at the Olympics in Atlanta, Sydney and Salt Lake City has been hired to keep the Dr Pepper/Seven Up Ballpark sparkling clean.
Rank 2003: NR
