Minnesota Twins Spring Training 2006 Report
 |
Rochester fans should get ready for the coming of hurler Glen Perkins.
The Twins' first-round pick in 2004 dominated the Florida State League (2.13 ERA) last year, then struggled in 14 starts at Double-A (4.90). |
"He's a little bit on the fast track,'' Rantz says of the 23-year-old left-hander. "He hit a bit of a wall at New Britain. He got timid and got behind hitters. That's not his style. He got his confidence back in the Arizona Fall League, and now we're thinking he might be at Rochester before the year is out.''
The AFL is a hitter-friendly league, yet Perkins recorded a 2.53 ERA for Grand Canyon and led the league with 39 strikeouts. He throws a fastball in the 92-94 mph range, a changeup and two curveballs.
