Devin Brown Is Back In Town
2002 USBL Rookie Of The Year Inks Contract With San Antonio Spurs.
07.31.03 - It's good to be going home. It's even better going home to be part of a championship team.
That is just what's happening for the 2002 United States Basketball League's (USBL) Rookie of the Year Devin Brown.
He has recently signed a two-year guaranteed contract with the 2003 NBA Champion San Antonio Spurs.
Brown will be returning to San Antonio, his hometown and also where he played his collegiate basketball at Texas San Antonio.
"This is a great day for the USBL, the Kansas Cagerz, and especially Devin," stated USBL Founder and Commissioner Daniel T. Meisenheimer III
"Devin has shown what hard work along with unbelievable talent can do for someone. To go to the NBA and play for your hometown team is something that I am sure Devin is delighted about. We wish him the all the success in the world and hope his stay in San Antonio is as enjoyable as his time in the USBL was," said Meisenheimer
In 2002, Devin averaged 17.3 points and 6.2 rebounds for the Kansas Cagerz and was a named a member of the USBL All-Rookie Team for his efforts.
Brown was also a member of the USBL Post-Season Festival Tournament Team.
He averaged 34.3 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 steals for the Tournament. Devin set new USBL Post-Season Festival records for most points in a game (49), Free Throws Attempted (23), Free Throws Made (21), and Field Goals Made (18).
