NBA Development League (D-League) Draft 2006

NBA 2006 D-League Draft

Three forwards made the top three picks in the NBA D-League 2006 Draft. Forward Corsley Edwards out of Central Connecticut State was chosen first overall in the by the expansion Anaheim Arsenal. Andre Brown from DePaul University was the No. 2 pick overall by the Sioux Falls Skyforce and Michael Harris of Rice was taken by the Colorado 14ers in the No. 3 slot. The draft began on time at 9:00pm EST and continued for ten rounds in a serpentine, with the Anaheim Arsenal securing the first overall selection through a lottery conducted at the annual coaches meeting in Dallas on October 2.

The Sioux Falls Skyforce had the second overall pick, followed by the Colorado 14ers, Fort Worth Flyers, Dakota Wizards, Arkansas RimRockers, Los Angeles D-Fenders, Tulsa 66ers, Idaho Stampede, Austin Toros, Bakersfield Jam and Albuquerque Thunderbirds.

The biggest surprise of the draft was the utter lack of interest in big men until the late third and fourth rounds.

Sheldon Pace, who went 94th OA in the 8th round to the Colorado 14ers, is one of several NCAA Division II players who will benefit from better skills coaching in the D-League.

Center Frans Steyn was a surprisingly low pick of the 66ers at 108th OA in the ninth round, who, with development, may live up to some of the high praise that both the Utah Jazz and the San Antonio Spurs have had for him in evaluation.

There were many players who are entering the D-League with an eye towards conversion to new positions.
