Atlanta calls up Flight guard Brandon Williams

GREENVILLE, S.C. (February 21, 2003) - Huntsville Flight shooting guard Brandon Williams has signed a 10-day contract with the Atlanta Hawks, VP/General Manager Pete Babcock announced today. Williams is the ninth callup for the National Basketball Development League to the NBA this year, surpassing last year's total with over a month still to play in the season.

Williams is the second member of the Flight to get the call to the NBA this year. Point guard Mike Wilks is currently finishing a 10-day contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves after having signed a pair of 10-day deals with the Hawks earlier this season.

Williams is also the third NBDL player to sign with the Hawks this season. North Charleston guard Corey Benjamin just completed two 10-day contracts with Atlanta.

In addition to Williams, Wilks and Benjamin, other NBDL to NBA callups this season include Devin Brown from Fayetteville to San Antonio, Bobby Simmons from Mobile to Washington, Rafer Alston from Mobile to Toronto, Mikki Moore from Roanoke to Boston and Damone Brown from North Charleston to Toronto.

Williams had played in and started 38 games for Huntsville this season, and leads the Flight in scoring with 13.8 points per game. He has also averaged 32.1 minutes, 4.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. His .402 three-point field goal percentage (37-92) is currently 10th in the NBDL.

Williams has logged NBA service with the Golden State Warriors (1997-98), San Antonio Spurs (1998-99) and New York Knicks (1999-2000). He signed with the Spurs during their world championship season of 1998-99.

A first-team All-Southern Conference player at Davidson, he concluded his collegiate career as the school's ninth all-time leading scorer with 1,505 points.
