
North Charleston Next Franchised Berg in NBDL League Lineup
North Charleston, South Carolina - 03/20/01 - The NBA's homebrew Development league, the NBDL, announced the second of eight cities in the Southeast to be awarded a franchise when it tapped North Charleston, South Carolina. The NBDL will start play in November of 2001.
The announcement was
made today by Rob Levine, the NBA's Senior Vice President, New League Development,
at the North Charleston Coliseum, the new home of North Charleston's NBDL
team, which has yet to be named.
"The vision of the city's leadership coupled with the region's reputation
as an international vacation destination makes North Charleston a great
addition to the NBDL family," said Levine.
"Our acceptance into the NBDL is a tribute to the state of the art
North Charleston Coliseum," said Mayor Keith Summey. "The NBDL's
recognition of our growth and future prospects is most gratifying."
This is the second franchise, and the second which SFX Entertainment, inc.,
a leading producer and promoter of live entertainment will be particpating
in a joint venture for ticketing and other enterainment opportunities at
the new team's venue.
Six more announcements remain. League sources tell MLN that the announcements will continue to roll out as deals with the host cities are firmed up. Team name annoucements will follow.
