ABA-2000 Announces December 26th Start Date
LosAngeles, CA - Dec. 7, 2000) - The ABA 2000 today announced its 2000-2001 league schedule. Tip-off will begin on Tuesday, December 26th.
"All eight teams are ready to go and on Dec. 26 a new chapter in basketball history will be written," says Gary Elbogen, Chairman of the ABA 2000 Executive Committee. Given the recent merger catastrophe, and many owners in the league divided as to how to proceed, it may be a short chapter. Four of the eight teams, who look at taking on the NBA with a certain degree of reluctance, are rumored to be considering jumping to the IBL.
The league claims that all eight ABA 2000 teams will start their inaugural season playing on opening night. MLN only counts four fully functional teams, and three laboring towards being open by Christmas. San Diego, which was a sink-hole for the IBL StingRays last year, looks to face much of the same Curse-o-the-Clippers apathy that plagued their predecessors.
The Indiana Legends will travel to Detroit to take on the Dogswhile the Kansas City Knights will visit the Memphis Houn¡Dawgs. The Tampa Bay ThunderDawgs will play inChicago against Skyliners and the LA Stars will play host to the San DiegoWildFire.
Each team will play a 56-game schedule, with the season concluding May 6th. No playoff format has been formerly announced, but a post season will take place with a champion being crowned at the end of May.
