Chris has been associated with the Explorers as far back as 1994 when he came to Sioux City as a radio producer and intern for the X’s. For 9 years, Varney hosted the popular SportsLine program on 1360 KSCJ. In 1999, Chris joined the Explorers radio team, broadcasting select games and hosting Budweiser Explorers Talk. The 2006 season will be Chris's 3rd as the "Voice of the Explorers." Over the years, he has interviewed celebrities such as Johnny Unitas, Bob Costas, Jack Buck, Dick Butkus, Kirk Ferentz, Chris Berman, George Brett, and many more. A native of Washington D.C., Chris has been a longtime fan of the Baltimore Orioles and notorious for his dislike of the New York Yankees. In 1993, Chris graduated from Ohio University with a degree in Telecommunications Management. He enjoys golf, reading, traveling, and talking sports with anyone who will listen.

Named after our annual Ralphie Awards in the memory Ralphie Onadakis, a poor fictional matchboy, trademarked at birth, whose one bright hope in life was to ascend to the prestigious and high paying world of minor league sports media relations. Promoted to general manager for his hard work, his life's dream was crushed forever. He took to drinking and promoting cheap motorcyle jumps and tractor pulls, then one day, faded from sight.
