Northern League Central Division Commissioner Wolff Resigns
The founder of the Northern League announced his resignation as the Central Division Commissioner.

Durham, NC - Miles Wolff announced his resignation as the Northern League Central Division Commissioner.

In 1993 Wolff founded the Northern League as the first of the independent professional leagues.

"I am very proud of what we have accomplished with the Northern League Central," said Wolff. "Many people predicted that baseball without major league affiliations would not be successful, but we have proven that baseball when it is played for the fans can be tremendously attractive."

"We have eight new ballparks in the division and many strong franchises. It is a good time for me to work on other baseball projects. I thank those cities and fans that had confidence in the league and wish them all a great future in baseball," Wolff concluded.

The Central Division has ten teams for 2002: Gary, IN, Joliet and Schaumburg, IL, Fargo, ND, Sioux Falls, SD, Lincoln, NB, Duluth and St. Paul, MN, Sioux City, IA, and Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Wolff will still have his hands full as the commissioner of the Northern League East Division that have eight-team franchises in Pittsfield and Brockton, MA, Little Falls, NJ, Elmira, Albany, and Glens Falls, NY, Allentown, PA, and Quebec City, Quebec.

He is also the commissioner of the eight-team Central League (Texas-Louisiana League) that have franchises in Alexandria, LA, Ozark, MO, Jackson, MS, and Amarillo, Edinburg, Harlingen, San Angelo, and Fort Worth, TX.

The Northern League Central Division is expected to name a new commissioner soon.
