League Central Finds Their New Commissioner

Stone will be filling the shoes Miles Wolff left empty in the Northern
League Central.
Durham, NC - Mike Stone, former Texas Rangers president, has been named the new commissioner of the independent Northern League Central Division.
Stone's most recent endeavor was as executive director for USA Boxing, the National Governing Body of amateur boxing. He was also president and chief operating officer of the Rangers from 1983 to 1990. Endorsed across the board was his return to baseball by the Northern League Central's 10 owners.
"I'm honored to be a part of the Northern League," Stone said. "I have admired independent baseball for some time and certainly the Northern League is the premier league of its kind. I look forward to helping develop the league's future."
Receiving a degree in biology from Albion College in Michigan, Stone also earned a master's and PhD in psychology from the University of Michigan, and was a captain in the United States Air Force from 1973-77. He served as assistant to the president of Western Company of North America, an oil company, from 1980 to 1983.
Stone will be taking over for Miles Wolff, league founder and former commissioner of the Northern League Central, who has announced his resignation. Wolff will remain commissioner of the East Division.
The Central Division has 10 teams for 2002 in Gary, IN, Joliet and Schaumburg, IL, Fargo, ND, Sioux Falls, SD, Lincoln, NE, Duluth and St. Paul, MN, Sioux City, IA, and Winnipeg, Manitoba.
