Offensive specialist Mike Horacek is the second Gladiator to catch on with an NFL team.

The New York Jets have signed New Jersey Gladiators offensive specialist Mike Horacek to a free-agent contract. Horacek is a candidate for 2002 Arena Football League Offensive Player of the Year honors.

Horacek led the AFL with 118 receptions for 1281 yards and 31 touchdowns in 14 games for the Gladiators. He was on the practice squad of the Green Bay Packers (2000 and 2001) and also played on the Detroit Lions developmental squad.

Horacek has tallied 350 receptions for 4464 yards with 96 touchdowns in his AFL career. He holds the AFL record for most yards gained in a game with 285 yards. He has also tied for second all time with the most consecutive games with 100 or more yards pass receiving.

Playing in all 14 games of the 1999 season for the Iowa Barnstormers, now the New York Dragons, he was named Ironman of the Game against the Albany Firebirds when he caught eight passes for 106 yards and two touchdowns while recording seven tackles on defense.

The offensive player of the year in 2000, he played every game for the Iowa Barnstormers and caught 119 passes with 46 going for touchdowns

Horacek is the second New Jersey Gladiator to catch on with an NFL team. Luis Almanzar, a New Jersey lineman, is currently in training camp with the St. Louis Rams. Kevin Swayne, another New York Jets receiver, made the transition to the NFL last season after playing for the New York Dragons in the AFL.

The New Jersey Gladiators are an Arena Football League team that plays Ironman Football, and play their home games at Continental Airlines Arena. The 2003 AFL season kicks off in February.
