Over The Weekend:

Albany maintained its perch atop the East Division with a pair of home wins over the weekend, defeating Cleveland on Friday, 5-2, and downing Rochester on Saturday, 3-2. Craig Darby leads the AHL with 12 assists and 15 points through eight games, and fellow River Rats newcomer Ray Giroux is tops among league defensemen with 11 points. Albany ranks third in the AHL in power play efficiency with 13 goals in 61 opportunities (21.3 percent).

Grand Rapids took over the top spot in the Central Division with a four-point swing through upstate New York, defeating Rochester on Friday and Syracuse on Saturday. Travis Richards scored the game-winner in Friday's 2-1 overtime win against the Amerks, and Michel Picard scored two goals and assisted on another in a 6-2 victory over the Crunch on Saturday. The Griffins are a perfect 3-0-0-0 on the road this season, but 0-3-1-0 at Van Andel Arena.

Norfolk kept out of the regulation loss column with a successful weekend in Pennsylvania, including one-goal wins in Philadelphia and Wilkes-Barre and a tie in Hershey. Former Phantom Peter White scored early in the third to give the Admirals a 3-2 win on Friday, and with a goal and four assists combined, Mike Peluso moved into a tie for second in the AHL's scoring race with 11 points on the year.

Saint John ran its winning streak to four games with a pair of 3-2 wins over Hamilton, extending its home unbeaten streak against the Bulldogs to 13 straight. Rookie Matt Lombardi scored the winner in overtime on Friday night, and Micki DuPont's late third-period tally, his second of the night, was the difference in the rematch. The Flames, opening the 2002-03 season with five consecutive Friday-Saturday series at Harbour Station, didn't win four in a row at all in 2001-02.
