Aeros have the Reitz stuff

Houston's Erik Reitz picked a fine time to tally his first professional goal.

The 20-year-old rookie scored 2:21 into overtime on Saturday night, capping the Aeros' come-from-behind effort for a 5-4 win in Cincinnati.

At 4-0-0-0, Houston is the only team left in the Western Conference with a perfect record in 2002-03.

It was the second time in as many nights that the Aeros came back from a two-goal deificit to win.

Zbynek Michalek began the comeback with his own first pro goal. The 19-year-old defenseman scored with 16 seconds left in the second period to pull Houston to within 4-3.

Three-time AHL All-Star Jean-Guy Trudel, who finished the night with a goal and three assists, tied the score with 7:53 to play in the third.

Tony Virta and Kyle Wanvig also scored for the Aeros.

River Rats end streak in style

It had been nine months since Albany last tasted a road victory. On Sunday in Chocolatetown, it was extra sweet.

Mike Rupp scored twice, including once in the River Rats' five-goal third period, as Albany cruised to an 8-3 win over the Hershey Bears at the Giant Center on Sunday evening.

The victory snapped a 23-game road winless streak for the Rats (0-14-5-4), dating back to Jan. 19 at Hartford.

After a scoreless first period, Albany erased three one-goal deficits in the second, and then poured it on with Scott Cameron, Craig Darby, Rupp, Max Birbraer and Mikko Jokela all lighting the lamp in the third.

Ari Ahonen made 31 saves to earn his own first road win since Dec. 1, 2001, also at Hartford.

The River Rats' outburst spoiled the professional debut of Hershey goaltender Peter Budaj, who was Colorado's second-round pick in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.

Elsewhere on Sunday:

•Mark Mowers and Sean Avery had a goal and an assist apiece as Grand Rapids earned its first win of the season against previously unbeaten Hamilton, 3-1...

•A penalty shot goal by Dmitry Afanasenkov was the difference as Springfield beat Providence, 2-1, to give Marty McSorley his first victory as a head coach...

•Graham Mink and Dwayne Zinger scored third-period goals and Sebastien Charpentier stopped 40 shots as Portland skated to a 2-2 tie with Manitoba...

•Houston maintained the AHL's only perfect record (5-0-0-0) with a 4-3 win in Cincinnati, with Jean-Guy Trudel scoring the game-winner with 3:35 left in regulation.
