ECHL Remembers Former Stingray Bavis
Former Stingrays Forward and NHL Kings Scout remembered along with other victims of September 11th

10.26.01 - Former South Carolina Stingrays forward Mark Bavis was among the passengers aboard United Airlines Flight 175, the second plane to crash into the World Trade Center on September 11.

Prior to each of the 29 home openers in the East Coast Hockey League, there will be a moment of silence in remembrance of Bavis and the other victims, as well as the victims’ families and the rescue workers. In addition, all ECHL players will wear American Flags on their sweaters this season.

Bavis was a native of Roslindale, Mass. He spent two seasons with the Stingrays from 1994-96 scoring 68 points in 77 games.

Mark was working as scout for the National Hockey League’s Los Angeles Kings. He was traveling to Southern California for the beginning of the team’s training camp.

He is survived by his mother Mary, and three siblings Kathy, Patrick and Mike. Brother Mike also played for the Stingrays, and skated alongside his brother in 1994-95.

A former draft pick of the New York Rangers in 1989 and graduate of Boston University, Mark Bavis was 31 years old.
