Insiders Edge:
Fedor Tyutin is a big, growing, 6'3", 212 lb, defenseman who already possesses the size to play in the NHL.
A 20 year-old from Russia, Tyutin does not play overly physical yet, though he clearly doesn’t mind the rough play.
Fedor played in the elite Russian Super League, against players who were years older and more experienced then him, and came to North America battle hardened.
Though his defense is very strong, it’s the emerging offensive facet of his game that will make him a star in the NHL, our insiders believe.
“He’s very skilled offensively,” states a source. “He gets the puck and he’s ready to go.”
Fedor is described as a great skater, can handle the puck, and has excellent hockey sense and vision.
“Though he’s still young, he sees openings a lot of the guys in the league don’t see.”
Insiders Edge:
Although not a huge defenseman, Kronwall possesses outstanding offensive skills, plays very smart, and has great hockey sense more than makes up for his smaller stature.
“The word on him is that if he wasn’t in an organization so deep on the blueline, he’d be playing in the NHL right now,” stated one source.
Niklas excelled as the best defenseman in the Swedish Elitleague and was a part of the Swedish World Championship team in 2003.
He can really quarterback the power play, carries the puck with confidence and is very offensive minded.
Kronwall, an excellent skater with phenomenal speed and great movement, plays real aggressive in the corners and with a lot of heart.
In just his first North American season, Kronwall is much better served playing with Grand Rapids this year, allowing him to get the necessary ice time that will help him to develop into an everyday NHL player.
Insider's Edge:
Our sources feel 20-year old Derek Roy is a very good, young talent who could become an everyday player in the NHL.
Roy is very quick, has great hands, and is already a big-time scorer; evident by the 78 points he piled up in only 49 junior games last season.
He has made an immediate impact with Rochester this year, and was named the AHL player of the month for October.
Insiders are quick to point out that Derek is always involved in the play, and he is a very exciting player.
“Every time he touches the puck, it seems like the fans are waiting for him to do something special, and he usually doesn’t let them down.”
Becoming a fan favorite couldn’t hurt Roy’s task of cracking the Sabres’ roster, where there is no shortage of talented forwards.
The word is, Roy just needs to get his feet wet in professional hockey and get his chance to show Buffalo what he can do.
“If he gets a legit shot, he’ll probably stick.”
