In 2003-04, Marcel made the jump to the American Hockey League and started his career with the Cleveland Barons. He compiled 16 goals and 21 assists in 78 games for the Barons, leading the team in games played.
Goc was promoted to San Jose for the NHL playoffs after a number of injuries thinned the Sharks’ postseason roster. He proved to be a clutch player.
Marcel made his NHL debut a memorable one, assisting on the game-winning, series-clinching goal against St. Louis in Game 5 of their first round series; however, the heroics didn’t stop there.
In his second career NHL game, he scored the game-winning goal in the series-deciding Game 6 against Colorado, moving the Sharks on the Western Conference Finals.
With the big league on hold, Goc found himself back with the Cleveland Barons, where he ranks second on the team with 26 points (9 goals, 17 assists) in 44 games in 2004-05.
When NHL play resumes, expect Marcel to get a chance to show that last year’s playoff performance was not a fluke.
