A former first round pick, Michael Holmqvist established himself with TPS Turka in the Finnish League before playing his first North American season in 2003-04.

Although Holmqvist began the year in the NHL with the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, he was optioned to Cincinnati of the AHL early in the year and spent most of the season bouncing between the two teams.

Michael played in 21 games for Anaheim last season, scoring two goals and racking up 25 penalty minutes. He also played in 24 games with Cincinnati, tallying seven goals, seven assists and 20 penalty minutes

In 2004-05, Holmqvist has been Cincy's most consistent forward, and does all the little things it takes to win.

He currently ranks second on the team, with 34 points (11 goals, 23 assists) in 51 games for the Baby Ducks this season.

“Michael is a complete player,” said one source. “He plays with a lot of heart and helps out on both ends of the ice.”

With his solid performance this season, it is likely that Holmqvist has played himself into a spot on the Anaheim roster when the NHL resumes.
