The Americans have one of the strongest teams in the AHL, with Jason Pominville joining his top ten teammates Ryan Miller and Thomas Vanek on the FAB50 at No. 42.
Pominville earned a reputation as a prolific scorer after tallying over 100 points in back-to-back seasons during his junior hockey career.
The Buffalo Sabres selected Jason in the second-round (55th Overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, and he made his AHL debut with the Rochester Americans in 2002-03.
He made a smooth adjustment to the pro game and finished his rookie season with 13 goals and 21 assists.
Pominville really flourished in 2003-04, leading the AHL with 22 power play goals and setting career highs in goals (34), assists (30) and points (64).
The Sabres took notice and gave a promotion to Pominville, who made his NHL debut on December 27 against Washington.
This season, Jason is again producing for the Amerks, putting up 34 points (15 goals, 19 assists) through 48 games.
His offensive abilities, especially on the power play, could help Jason earn a spot on the Buffalo roster in the near future, providing that there is a near future for Buffalo or the NHL.
In the meantime, fans are getting big league play out of this transitional minor leaguer.
