Loaded with offensive skill, forward Tomas Fleischmann established himself as a top prospect after a successful junior hockey season in the Western Hockey League last year.
Appearing in 60 games for Moose Jaw of the WHL, Fleischmann set career highs in goals (33) and points (75). He finished second on the team in goals, points and assists (42) and tied for first in powerplay goals (10).
Fleishmann played in all 10 playoff games for Moose Jaw, ranking fourth on the team in points (7) on three goals and four assists.
He also represented the Czech Republic in the 2004 World Junior Championships, recording two goals and two assists in seven games while helping his team to a fourth-place finish.
Originally a second round pick by Detroit, Fleischmann came to the Washington Capitals organization in a late season trade for Robert Lang last year.
Tomas has performed well in his pro debut with the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League this season.
Playing on the same line as fellow rookie and Czech Republic native Jakub Klepsis (MLN FAB50 No.29) , with whom he has competed with since they were kids, Fleischmann has tallied 16 points in 44 games.
You can add Fleischmann’s name to the list of talented young players that will be vying for ice time with the Capitals when the NHL resumes play. He and Klepsis could be the new Caps Czech Combo that energizes that club.
