The dream popped out of the fax machine. The San Jose Sharks faxed Josh Hennessy’s contract to his parent’s house.
“I really need to get more consistent in everything I do,” Hennessy told MLN about turning that dream into a reality. “I am still trying to get up and play every night.”
The Sharks acquired Hennessy as the 43rd pick after trading package of later picks to NY Rangers.
This chapter of Josh’s career is being sponsored by the letter “D.”
“I really need to play as intense on defense as I do on offense,” Hennessy said. “I think in the junior leagues, you got so used to playing in other people’s zone that defense wasn’t nearly as important.”
Cleveland Barons head coach Roy Sommer feels that Hennessy’s strengths are in the smaller details of the game.
“He is really good at face-offs,” Sommer said. “He wins the majority of those and that can make the difference between a win and a lose.”
Like many players in the AHL, Hennessy needs to work on his consistency but Sommer says that he has made great strides since the beginning of the season.
“He’ll have four or five games that are really good,” Sommer said. “And he is getting more consistent as the season progresses.
“He’s got to be consistent in order to make it to that next level,” Sommer said. “In that next level, a mistake can cost you a hockey game.”
