Molly Makes Her Mark, P.2

Continued from page two ...

“Molly, the best advice I can give you in your pro debut and your pro tour is keep your head up, because a lot of those hockey players are going to be wanting to get close to you in scrums and stuff around the front of the net,” he said.

McMaster didn’t have time to think about pre-game jitters. On the same weekend that her pro hockey career launched, she played in her third Empire State Games, driving Sunday morning to a game in Lake Placid, then back South about two hours to Glens Falls in time for the Frostbite’s 5:30 p.m. faceoff.

Her endeavor has struck a chord with people from all walks of life.

“I’m getting e-mails from women across the country that are saying, ‘Do us women proud.’”

Having just turned 30, McMaster could still entertain thoughts about national or international competition. “I don’t think I would do it now even if I could,” she said. “My priorities have changed. Boy would I love to, but I’m in a different place now.

“I really love what I do. I run a non-profit organization. I have my own schedule, I get to go to work in my pajamas and save peoples’ lives.”

Now she gets to live a little hockey dream, and move the puck forward for women in sports a notch as well.
